Indalca (PA3R) is a guar gum based thickener commonly used (in a more purified form) in food stuff.  

In fabric dyeing it is particularly recommended for making the thickening paste for transfer dyes (aka disperse dyes*) for printing onto synthetic fabric, for thickening natural dyes, as well as acid and VAT dyes.

Because of its stability in both strong acid & alkaline conditions, Indalca is used for making up discharge and devore pastes.

In the same way as CMC (a cellulose paste) should not be used to thicken Procion MX dyes, Indalca should not be used to thicken these reactive dyes as the dye could be fixed to the paste rather than the fibre.

* Idye Poly is a branded, prepackaged form of disperse dye for dyeing synthetic fabrics

Making the Indalca PA3R paste:
Indalca is a fine cream coloured powder.   There may be fine powdery lumps but they are not solid and easily broken down.
For a standard paste the ratio of water to Indalca powder is 10:1 
Example:
Sprinkle 50gms powder onto 500gms cold water while stirring
Use an electric mixer/blender when possible for a smoother more consistent paste.
When thoroughly mixed, leave for 1hr before using.
Once made up it will last for about 3 days before deteriorating.
