A hygroscopic agent used in Procion dyeing.

Attracts moisture from the atmosphere and so helps draw the dye into the fabric.   Keeps the fabric damp allowing greater time for the dye to react.  
Most useful in direct painting & printing methods, although some dyers will also use urea in place of salt in immersion dyeing.
